An international code for the identification of bank accounts. It consists of a maximum of 28 alphanumeric characters, in the Spanish case: two letters that identify the country and two control digits, followed by a second part that coincides with the old customer account code (CCC). In this way, bank account formats are unified between different countries. Since the entry into force of the single euro payment area in February 2014, the IBAN replaces the CCC in financial banking transactions.
